Statistics of Malaysia’s Direct Investment Abroad (DIA), 2023

Malaysia’s DIA posted a net outflow of RM40.6 billion in 2023


Malaysia’s Direct Investment Abroad (DIA) registered a lower net outflow amounting to RM40.6 billion in 2023 as against RM62.8 billion in the preceding year.


In terms of position, DIA increased to RM664.4 billion from RM606.8 billion while investment income lowered to RM41.1 billion as compared to RM53.7 billion in 2022.


Equity & investment fund shares were the main components to DIA outflow in 2023 which amounted to RM43.1 billion. In the meantime, Debt instruments recorded a turnover to net inflow of RM2.5 billion (2022: RM4.8 billion) particularly from loan extension.


Services and Mining & quarrying sectors were the main contributors for both DIA flows and income.


The largest investment flows were mainly to the Singapore, Indonesia and the United States of America.
