Statistics of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Malaysia, 2022

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Malaysia registered a higher net inflow of RM74.6 billion in 2022 as compared to RM50.4 billion in the previous year.


In terms of position, FDI climbed to RM879.1 billion as at the end of 2022 (2021: RM782.0 billion).


Meanwhile, investment income rose to RM104.7 billion from RM100.4 billion in 2021, as a result of higher income earned by foreign companies in Malaysia.


FDI flows were primarily in the form of equity and investment fund shares which amounted to RM54.9 billion. In the meantime, debt instruments recorded a turned around to net inflows of RM19.7 billion as against net outflows of RM4.9 billion in 2021.


Manufacturing sector was the main contributor to FDI flows, while income was largely in Manufacturing sector, followed by Services.


The largest investment flows were mainly from the USA, Singapore and Japan. Investors from these countries also gained the highest earnings in 2022.
