International Investment Position (IIP), First Quarter 2022

Malaysia’s International Investment Position (IIP) registered lower net assets of RM47.3 billion as at the end of first quarter 2022 (Q4 2021: net assets of RM84.9 billion). Both total financial assets and liabilities increased to RM2,125.4 billion and RM2,078.0 billion, respectively.


Malaysia’s Direct Investment Abroad (DIA) position increased to RM551.7 billion, primarily in Financial activities, Mining and Manufacturing sectors. Asia remained as the largest contributing region, mostly channeled to Singapore and Indonesia.


The accumulated Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Malaysia surged to RM812.1 billion, with Manufacturing as the main sector. Asia continued to be the top region for FDI position, predominantly from Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan.
