As at end of first quarter 2021, Malaysia’s International Investment Position (IIP) recorded a higher net assets of RM106.4 billion as against RM67.5 billion in previous quarter. Total financial assets increased to RM2,020.1 billion while total liabilities registered RM1,913.7 billion.
Direct Investment Abroad (DIA) position increased to RM539.8 billion of which Financial activities remained as the main contributor, followed by Mining and Agriculture sectors. Asia region held the largest position and the investments were most notably to Singapore and Indonesia.
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) position in Malaysia also registered an increase of RM713.4 billion, primarily contributed by Manufacturing, Financial activities and Wholesale & retail trade. Asia region continues to be the top recipient of FDI position, predominantly from Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan.
